Job Description For Morningstar Careers 2022
As a Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain the database systems powering our statistical software applications and data products. This role requires significant interaction with both upstream and downstream stakeholders across Technology, Data, Products, Sales/Service, and Research.
The Sr. Software Engineer will work closely with developers and analysts to create database solutions that are reliable and fast. You will ensure that the data needed to build our services is ready to ingest as well as making sure the data we output is ready to be consumed by others. Data is at the core of everything we do on the quantitative research team and you will ensure our databases are well designed and maintained to power our research and products. This includes enhancing disaster recovery and backup systems.
You are an individual who possesses strong technical skills, loves cloud technology. You also enjoy working with technical teams on complex problems and are always looking to improve yourself and others around you.
This position reports to Manager of Quantitative Research team.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain databases that support variety of quantitative research projects across business domains.
- Interact with developers and analysts to ensure data needs are met for research projects and applications.
- Automate workflows to extract, transform, and load data from disparate data sources.
- Analyze performance issues in the database layer and assist with performance tuning.
- Ensure quality of technical and application architecture and design of systems across the organization. Effectively research and benchmark technology against other best in class technologies.
- Functional Skills Experience in Banking, Financial and Fintech experience in an enterprise environment preferred Experience in following best Coding, Security, Unit testing and Documentation standards and practices Experience in Agile methodology
Skills Required For Morningstar Careers 2022
- Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in designing and managing large-scale database systems
- Experience of SQL, Python is must. Extensive coding experience with Python (3.6 and above)
- BS degree in engineering, computer science.
- Experience with People systems as Workday, Oracle HCM Cloud, Kronos, Core HR, Qualtrics.
- Cloud(AWS, Azure) certification is preferred.
- Working knowledge of AWS Data Engineering tools like Athena, Glue, EMR, DynamoDB is preferred.
- Experience with relational, file-based databases (e.g. MSSQL, Postgres, Redshift, Netezza, HDFS)
- Experience implementing, and maintaining ETL jobs using Nifi, Informatica, or other ETL tools
- Exposure with Agile software engineering practices.
- Experience with the Hadoop stack is preferred (SQOOP, HDFS, Hive, Spark).
- Experience with UNIX/Linux including basic commands and shell scripting.
